President Pershing and the U Welcome New Students to Campus
President Pershing greeted new University of Utah students and their family during an event at Kingsbury Hall. It was an opportunity for the class of 2016 to get to know the President, and explore resources and traditions at the U.
The Great Red Road Trip
Summer is the time for road trips. So, as the new President of the U, I’m embarking on the Great Red Road Trip. It’s a journey across Utah to stop at some timeless landmarks, introduce myself to the leaders of Utah’s other universities and colleges, and generally explore ways to expand our collaboration with entities all across this great state. Welcome to the University of Utah!
For many years, the U has been one of the best-kept secrets in higher education, but as we embark on our second year in the Pac-12 Conference, all that is changing. Word is getting out, and the University of Utah’s reputation for educational, research, and athletic excellence is rapidly growing. With more than 100 undergraduate, 90 graduate degree programs, and more than 30,000 students, Utah’s flagship university offers a unique educational experience, with a focus on engaged learning. Ranked among the top 100 universities in the world, the U is first in the nation for technology startups, reflecting an entrepreneurial spirit that drives innovation across our top-tier programs in the sciences, the humanities, and the arts.
The U combines an exciting campus environment with a world of possibilities just outside our back door: Salt Lake City, an urban jewel boasting a wide variety of cultural, culinary, and entertainment attractions, and the majestic Wasatch Mountain Range, home to “the greatest snow on earth.” The astounding beauty of Utah’s landscape is more than a backdrop − our mountains, canyons, deserts, lakes, and rivers are living laboratories and classrooms and a wellspring of inspiration.
